Poem : The Surface

i’m afraid
i don’t meet standards
there’s no way i will ever
not at this rate
balancing temper isn’t helping
the distraction is getting pricey
i can’t think anymore
can’t judge
and i feel but just DNA
what else can i be
love and support
i really can’t
can’t reach up high anymore
my age doesn’t want to
not going forward
but i’m not jumping
this inherited emotional state
it won’t allow it
i’ll just sink deep
let go of all my dependencies
and vicarious thoughts
cover my tracks
to be so alone
from what i’m leaving behind
on the harsh and hairy surface
there’s no telling what can happen
in the safekeeping
of darkness
